World Citizen Wednesdays #11: Ethnic Cuisine
Welcome to World Citizen Wednesday!
Each week we pose a question to members of the fabulous Multicultural Kid Blogs group and share their answers here.
To find out more about these amazing bloggers, check out the Multicultural Kid Blogs Facebook page. And watch for our group website, coming soon!
This week we ask them:
What ethnic cuisine (other than your own) do your little ones love?
Melissa of Vibrant Wanderings: My daughter has been eating Indian food since she was a baby and she loves it – the whole family does. She was confused when first we called a toy a doll, because she was thinking of lentils. Being vegan, I deeply appreciate the wonderful and varied flavors Indian cooking brings to our table, too!
Olga of The European Mama: Indian and Chinese, Lithuanian, Ukrainian.
Stephanie of InCultureParent: So many things. Their current favorite is Korean BBQ (my five year old frequently asks for either Korean BBQ or Chinese noodles in her lunch. I don’t think she gets that lunch is supposed to be easy and hassle free for me to make-lol!). They also love every type of Moroccan food with lamb tagine as their favorite. And their other current fave is Afghani chicken and rice. We’re lucky in the Bay Area to have so many great types of food at our fingertips.
Amanda of Miss Panda Chinese: My daughter loves noddles. She enjoys Pho, the Vietnamese beef noodle soup, Japanese Udon and Ramen. She also loves to eat her own creation of sushi with rice, roasted chicken, and broccoli wrapped in seaweed. My son loves fried rice with eggs and salmon or hotdogs (yes, hotdogs. It is not a healthy choice but it is always a hit.), spaghetti with meatballs, olive oil and garlic. His new favorite is Indian Naan. Both of my kids are crazy for Cōng yóu bǐng 蔥油餅, the Chinese Green onion pancake!
Valerie of Glittering Muffins: He seems to like non spicy curries so far like the yellow chicken as he calls it (a dish from Brazil).
Annabelle of The Piri-Piri Lexicon: At our house it is spicy food all round. Our daughter snacks on spicy chorizo since we first let her eat it! She eats it like other kids eat sweets! She also loves tortillas and quesadillas.
MaryAnne of Mama Smiles: Fried rice, lasagna, and black beans and rice are staples at our house! Also empanadas and Swedish pancakes.
Melissa of Where going havo?: Both of my babies loved Indian food, and for a while it seemed like my first baby ONLY liked ‘ethnic’ food of some sort. Halušky, Pad Thai, chicken tikka masala, she really seemed to dig any sort of regional specialty. My second baby will eat anything.
Jill of Moms Gone Global: Middle Eastern! My boys love falafel and different types of hummus. Their current hummus favorites are edamame and white bean.
