Gifts for Kids Who Want to Change the World
Mundo Verde / Green World is the latest bilingual album from the Grammy-winning children’s artist Mister G. The songs are the album are just as fun and catchy as on his award-winning album Los Animales
, but now they also inspire children to save the planet! The songs are all in English and Spanish, so it’s great if your kids are learning Spanish already or if you just want to expose them to un poquito (a little) Spanish. And a note to parents – if you dread having to listen to your children’s music over and over, I can tell you that Mundo Verde / Green World
is one album that you will enjoy listening to even when they aren’t around! And now you can win a copy of this awesome environmentally themed children’s album – scroll to the end of the post for details!
The Traveling Animals Board game is an award-winning conservation-themed board game that teaches about animals and migratory patterns at the same time that it educates about the importance of caring for the environment. It’s great for family game time, as it has three levels of play that can occur simultaneously to accommodate a range of ages and abilities. Recommended for ages 8+. If your kids get inspired, you can always share with them the revised edition of the great book The New 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth.
So many of us have been inspired by marches past and present to get our children involved in activism. It is never too soon to make their voices heard! Kids have so much to say, and the amazing new book The Little Book of Little Activists honors the youngest change makers by showcasing what kids have to say on a range of issues like equality, diversity, and feminism. Sharing inspiring quotes from children is a powerful way of showing children that they don’t have to wait until they are grown to make a difference! Wonderful book for those that want to encourage their children to get involved in their community.
Kids can also show off their love for acceptance and diversity with this beautiful Kids Love For All- Multicultural T-Shirt. I also really love this Together We Can Change The World T-Shirt for Kids.
Young environmentalists will love wearing this fun Make The Earth Cool Again T-Shirt. Or you can always go with the classic Recycle Symbol Graphic T-Shirt.
Come With Me is a really beautiful book for children who may feel discouraged about all the negativity they see in the news and wonder whether they can really make a difference. This gentle story shows how even small actions can change the world for the better. No act of kindness is insignificant, and our everyday actions to choose love and friendship really do matter.
Another set of books to inspire young people is Ordinary People Change the World Gift Set. These extraordinary books, now available as a beautiful gift set, focus on real heroes that children can look up to, such as Rosa Parks
and Jane Goodall
. But the emphasis here is not on how extraordinary and larger than life they were – but on how they were ordinary people who decided to have faith in making a difference.
Gifts can also be a great way to help support the causes your child believe in. This beautiful Panda Backpack, for example, is not only a wonderful way to show off a love of animals, but a portion of the proceeds from all of the bags in this line (including this adorable Cheetah Lunch Bag) are donated to wildlife conservation organizations.
Fair trade items are also a great way to give your child a cherished gift and help a worthy cause at the same time! Simply look for fair trade gifts like this gorgeous “Adinkra- Sankofa” Beaded Stretch Bracelet or this fun Maisha Beautiful African Fair Trade Glass Beaded Coil Bracelet. You can even buy an assortment of Fair Trade Recycled Glass Beads so they can make their own jewelry! Your child or teen can enjoy making a fashion statement knowing that their style is supporting communities around the world!
Gifts can also support ethical companies like The Body Shop. Teens will love sets like this Strawberry Festive Picks Small Gift Set, which comes with strawberry shower gel, soap, body polish, and body butter, plus a mini bath scrub!
Make a Donation
Of course, if you have a child that wants to change the world, a perfect gift is to make a donation in their name to support their favorite cause, whether it is ending childhood hunger or supporting conservation. If you’re not sure where to donate, go to Charity Watch to find organizations that have been rigorously researched and given a top rating.
