Board Books for Babies and Toddlers
Below are some of our favorite new board books for the littlest readers.
Tummy Time and its companion Reading Time are a high-contrast book for the very youngest readers. Tummy Time includes images of diverse babies plus a mirror that little ones will love looking at. Reading Time teaches babies first concepts through simple rhyming text. Based on research about babies’ development, the visual stimulation from these sturdy, fold-out books is designed to hold their attention and help engage their busy brains. At the same time, the book helps with physical development, as it is ideal for caregivers to prop up while babies do tummy time.
Noisy Babies is a touch and feel book that also includes sound. (Yes, there is an off switch!) It takes babies through important times in their day, like mealtime and bathtime, with photos of babies and associated objects. Most importantly, each spread includes an interactive feature that babies can touch to hear a sound, like a baby’s giggle. A great book to hold a little one’s attention and spark their curiosity.
The Look, Touch, Learn series of board books has been carefully tailored for how young babies perceive the world, with visuals designed to both engage and develop their emerging visual and motor skills. Every detail, from the color palette to the moving parts and tactile elements was created in light of the latest research on newborn development. Wonderful books to spark curiosity and creativity.
The Don’t Mix Up My… series has that wonderful interactive element that young children love. Little hands spin the wheel to change how the dinosaur on each page looks. Each tail on the wheel also has a different, fun texture. Readers will have fun “mixing up” the dinosaurs, as well as trying to match them to the original designs featured on the back cover.
This fun mix-and-match book encourages creativity by letting kids create hundreds of food combinations, including silly ones like ketchup on a sundae! I love that the foods showcased include many which will be familiar to the children along with others, like couscous and paella, which may not be. An engaging book that is sure to be enjoyed over and over again.
The Look, It’s… series is a collection of multi-sensory books for very young readers, with flaps to lift, shiny foil inlay, and a mirror hiding behind a large flap at the end of the story. The text teaches simple animal sounds, and the collage artwork features animals large and small, with a hide and seek challenge on every page.
This colorful lift-the-flap book is a fun way to introduce young readers to the alphabet, with cute illustrations of familiar creatures and objects to illustrate each letter. Each spreads features several flaps that lift to reveal additional illustrations.
Featuring 14 beloved nursery rhymes, this engaging board book is a wonderful way to introduce little ones to these classic verses. They will love lifting the flaps to reveal a hidden surprise on every page.
This delightful series utilizes adorable animals and mirrors to capture babies’ attention. These sweet books encourage play, with big flaps to lift and a peek-a-boo mirror hidden on every page.
Look is a wordless book that lets babies gaze upon colorful portraits of friendly faces and familiar objects. It makes an excellent object to use for tummy time, and, as they get older, the book helps give a foundation for first words and concepts.
