This is the story of a young girl determined to update her community’s Ganesha Chaturthi traditions to make them more eco-friendly. Each year, worshipers place plaster statues of Ganesha in the river, yet young Prema is alarmed when she sees how these pollute the river when they dissolve. When Prema comes up with an all-natural replacement, she works hard to convince others to use clay statues instead. She perseveres through several obstacles, and, in the end, the statues become the talk of the village, convincing even the skeptics of the merit of Prema’s idea. An inspirational story about how one person can spark change in an entire community. Includes more detailed information at the back about Ganesha Chaturthi and how to make clay statues of your own.
