This board book delivers important information about disability in clear, simple language that belies the profound nature of these concepts. Part of a series of books that address important topics with kids, it covers what disabilities are and how we can make sure our spaces are accessible for all. One important lesson is that Disability Justice benefits ALL people: We all have differences that should be respected, and everyone should feel comfortable asking for help when they need it. The illustrations deserve a special mention, for the wide range of disabilities shown and the diverse characters used to demonstrate them. Most importantly, they are crafted in such a way to demonstrate that in so many ways, people with disabilities are just like everyone else in the most fundamental ways. This colorful book is part of a series of board books that celebrate our bodies. This book focuses on the mouth and what it can do, like enjoying food and blowing bubbles. Yet they can also show our emotions, give affection to our loved ones, and tell others what we think. The illustrations show diverse children helping others, showing kindness, and using their bodies in joyful ways. A fun way to help children focus on what their bodies can do as opposed to simply about looks.

Having grown up in a culture where bodies (especially those of women and girls) were constantly evaluated (and usually found wanting, where learning to hate your body was practically a rite of passage, this book is a breath of fresh air. It demonstrates clearly that there is another way, where bodies of all shapes and sizes are normal and loved. A young girl learns this lesson every year when she travels to visit her grandmother in Japan. Most memorable are the trips to the local bath house, where she plays and relaxes with her cousins, surrounded by the naked bodies of her aunts and grandma. The love and acceptance that surrounds her extends to her own growing body, and she can easily see that it includes bodies at every stage of life. A lovely book about body positivity and cross-cultural families.

This affirming book is a celebration of panzas, or bellies – specifically, mamas’ bellies, those soft, squishy bellies that little kids love but, unfortunately, their owners often grow to hate. This book goes against that trend by reveling in everything that is wonderful about those round bellies from a child’s perspective, seeing it as his first home and now as his safe space. A lovely book for little ones and even more for the owners of soft bellies, who hopefully can show those remarkable panzas the love they deserve.
