We recently did the Shadows, Scandals & Secrets of Old Town Sacramento tour and loved every minute! (They also offer a Boo’s and Booze Haunted Pub Crawl if you are looking for grownup fun). The tour we went on, Shadows, Scandals & Secrets of Old Town Sacramento, is appropriate for teens and kids who enjoy hearing scary stories, while still being thrilling for adults as well.
Keep in mind that the tours take place at night (of course, ghost stories are better when it’s dark!), and it is a walking tour, so make sure your kiddos are okay with walking approximately one mile over the one hour period.
Our tour guide Ethan was an experienced guide and very knowledgeable. He was a wonderful storyteller, managing to make us laugh even as he had us looking over our shoulders. Most importantly, he was genuinely delighted to tell us the ghoulish tales that make up the tour. Indeed, his favorite line, always delivered with obvious glee, was, “And it gets worse…”
The Sacramento ghost tour is perfect if you have out of town guests to entertain, though as a resident of Sacramento for 20+ years, I still heard many stories I had never heard before! Indeed, I felt like I was seeing an entirely different side to Old Sacramento, despite the many times I have visited it.
I also highly recommend the extended tour, which includes even more haunted locations. I can honestly say that the stories that haunted me the most came on the final stop of our extended tour. Consider yourself warned!
